Upcoming peru trip
Board Members Todd, Martha and Austin will be flying overnight from Kansas City to Lima on June 1st. Lima is the capital of Peru. From Lima, we will fly to Iquitos which is the largest city in the world with no access by road. There is one road out of Iquitos that ends in Nauta. From Nauta, we will have to travel by boat 2 hours down on the Amazon River system to the Libertad Jungle Lodge.
We will be staying at the lodge each night since it is only another 30-minute boat ride to the village of Yurcuruchi. Yucuruchi is too small to have lodging. We will travel to Yucuruchi each morning and back the lodge each night. The lodge is primitive with no electricity. They will start a generator for one hour each night for charging electronics, however, there is little or no cell reception.
We will be taking a dentist and a doctor with medicine to treat the villagers. We will also install solar power to provide fresh water to the school. These efforts will provide much needed sanitation and health benefits to the people of Yucuruchi.
